CNN —A Leeds United soccer fan was admitted to hospital after reportedly falling from the top tier of Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge stadium in southwest London on Wednesday night. The incident took place shortly after Leeds took a 1-0 lead against Chelsea in the first half of their FA Cup last-16 match, according to reports by British media, citing footage from social media. “Leeds United can confirm an incident involving a Leeds United supporter occurred in the Shed End of Stamford Bridge during the first-half of tonight’s FA Cup game,” the Championship club, who play in English soccer’s second tier, said in a statement. CNN —Swedish soccer star Kristoffer Olsson has been hospitalized and placed on a ventilator, seemingly due to an “acute disease related to the brain,” according to a statement from his team FC Midtjylland on Tuesday. FC Midtjylland also asked for privacy to allow the midfielder and his family to focus on recovery. FC Midtjylland said on Wednesday that training had been closed to media and fans as the club had been so affected by what had happened to Olsson. Olsson playing for FC Midtjylland in August 2023. After leaving Arsenal in 2014, Olsson joined FC Midtjylland on loan before completing a permanent move to the Danish side.

CNN —Ivan Toney, the star striker for English Premier League club Brentford, has been suspended from soccer and fined £50,000 ($62,407) due to “breaches of The FA’s Betting Rules,” England’s Football Association announced on Wednesday. According to the FA, Toney “was charged with 262 breaches of FA Rule E8 in total between 25 February 2017 and 23 January 2021. The FA subsequently withdrew 30 of these breaches and he admitted to the remaining 232.”Rule E8 in the FA’s handbook highlights the rules around betting. Brentford said the club was aware of the eight-month ban decision and is awaiting the written report from the independent Regulatory Commission who ruled on the case. LONDON, Feb 22 (Reuters) - Buyout financier Ares Management Corp (ARES.N) has been offering funds to support a takeover of Manchester United (MANU.N), three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters. It is the latest U.S. asset manager to seek a financing role in the battle for the English soccer club. It was unclear whether Ares has been looking to finance bids for Manchester United through that fund, which has already invested in Spain's Atletico de Madrid soccer club and Inter Miami CF, or another vehicle. Last Friday, Manchester United received indicative offers from bidders including chemicals firm INEOS, led by long-time fan Jim Ratcliffe, and Qatari Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani. INEOS wants to fund an offer without external financing, but could consider bringing in a minority equity partner, one source said.
